Artificial Intelligence
Specializations
You can choose from the following specializations in the Master’s in Artificial Intelligence:
Knowledge Technology and Intelligent Internet Applications
The Knowledge Technology and Intelligent Internet Applications specialization involves the study of knowledge, structure and applications. The programme focuses on the organizational aspects of knowledge management, as well as on the technical aspects of designing and building knowledge-based systems. It also explores the ways in which artificial intelligence techniques can play an important role within current and future generations of the internet.
Cognitive Science
This is the multidisciplinary study of mind and cognition. Researchers in cognitive science come from a wide range of backgrounds, including psychology, computer science, artificial intelligence, philosophy, mathematics and neuroscience. But they all share the common goal of gaining a deeper understanding of the human mind.
Computational Intelligence and Self-organization
In this specialisation an emphasis is placed on two key-topics within Artificial Intelligence. First of all, techniques that enable learning are addressed. These techniques for instance include evolutionary algorithms and datamining techniques. Furthermore, the study of self-organization is part of the programme, thereby focusing on organizations of individuals that by cooperating show intelligent behavior. Such organizations are often inspired by nature, one can for instance think of a flock of birds or an ant colony.
Human Ambience
In the Master variant Human Ambience you learn on a detailed level how to model both mental and physiological processes of human functioning. For instance, you can learn how to model the mental and physical states associated with depression, but also the physical state of an athlete. Such models are then used in applications that support humans in their daily lives in a dedicated manner, also to enable the developed support systems to understand humans better.
Technical Artificial Intelligence
One objective of this specialization is to familiarize you with developments in artificial intelligence and computer science. Another is to prepare you for employment in companies creating intelligent applications. Students learn to apply techniques from computer science to problems associated with artificial intelligence, such as designing knowledge-based or multi-agent systems.
Artificial Intelligence and Communication (tuition is partly in Dutch)
This specialization prepares you for a career in public relations, science journalism, education (in publishing or the museum sector) or policy-related communications. Subjects include popular science writing, communication studies and the ethics of science and technology communication.
