Accommodation
After your acceptance here, you can apply for the student accommodation offered by the university. It is not easy to find accommodation yourself.
Living expenses
Your living expenses will between €700 and € 1000 per month. An rough calculation you find here. You can work besides your studies, but it is not easy to find a job.
Erasmus Intensive Language Course
You can take an Erasmus Intensive Language Course (EILC) in the Netherlands, before you start your studies here. This is paid for by the Erasmus programme and you will get an extra monthly Erasmus grant. The deadline for application is 31 May for courses starting in the first semester and 31 October for courses staring in the second semester. More information.
Dutch Language courses at VU Amsterdam
In August you can also take a two-week language course here before the start of your courses. During the academic year you can attend other courses in Dutch too.
Introduction programme and ESN VUniverse
VU University Amsterdam offers an introduction programme at the beginning of each semester. And you are welcome to join the Erasmus Student Network VUniverse.
Living in Amsterdam
Amsterdam is a global city famous for its open cosmopolitan atmosphere and rich culture. Yet it is relatively small and easy to get around. Learn more about the city here.
Travel in the Netherlands and Europe
Traveling here is easy: most people speak English and the public transport is well developed. There is a lot to discover. Amsterdam is also a good starting base to visit Belgium, France, Germany and the UK.
